Upcoming IRS Shutdown & Pro-Rated Form 2290 Deadline

It’s that time of the year again and it’s already beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🎅🏼, with the holiday season just a few weeks away we would also like to keep you reminded that the IRS E-file services would be closed for year-end maintenance, any return transmitted during the shutdown period beginning from December 25th will only be processed once the IRS is operational sometime in the first week of January 2020. The shutdown period would begin at 11:59 a.m. Eastern time, Saturday, December 26, 2020, to prepare the system/servers for the upcoming 2021 Filing Season.

Today is the Deadline to file Pro-rated Form 2290 and 3rd Qtr IFTA tax returns, E-file Now!

We have an important message about your Form 2290 tax returns, today is the deadline to file Form 2290 HVUT tax return for vehicles first used since September 2020. So if you bought a new truck and put it in service in the month of September 2020 but haven’t filed your Form 2290 tax return yet, you must prepare and file it by today, November 2nd, 2020

Pro-Rated Form 2290 & Q3 IFTA that are required to be filed by October 31, 2020 can be filed by November 2, 2020

Deadlines are constant reminders that allow you to get tax returns completed on time and also stay compliant with the IRS. Paying taxes before the due date always gives you the upper hand.

We at www.taxexcise.comwww.tax2290.com would like to keep you reminded of the forms that are due by end of this month:

  • Form 2290: The Federal Excise Tax Form 2290 also known as Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) is due by November 2nd  for any new vehicle that was purchased or first put into service in the month of September.
  • IFTA: International Fuel Tax Agreement is due by November 2nd for the third quarter of 2020. IFTA is filed for vehicles that travel in at least 2 or more IFTA jurisdictions. All reports will have the amount of fuel used and mileage covered under each state jurisdiction traveled. IFTA fuel reports are due four times a year, the last day of the month after each quarter closes. Prepare this report for the third quarter of 2020 before the November 2nd deadline.

Form 2290 Due Now for Vehicles First Used in August 2020!

The Federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax Form 2290 needs to be completed by owner-operators and business owners alike who are registered or are required to register a heavy highway motor vehicle. Electronically filing Form 2290 enables you to receive your Schedule 1 in a few minutes rather than waiting a few months on forms mailed in. This filing deadline is not the same as the Vehicle Registration date, Irrespective of the vehicle registration renewal, form 2290 has to be completed for any vehicle used during a tax period by the last day of the month following the month the vehicle was first used on public highways. Form 2290 is due by September 30 for vehicles first put into service in the month of August 2020.
